After years of pressure from the education sector and increased recent coverage by the media, including by 2011 IEAA media award winner John Ross of The Australian, States and Territories have agreed to consider seniors-style national travel concession arrangements for students.
Over the past five years IEAA has consistently pressed in many public submissions and statements that government travel concessions should be extended to international students across Australia, on equity and personal security grounds and as part of a wider consideration about extension of travel concessions to full-time domestic postgraduate students.
The Association will pay close attention to this development and attempt to exert influence on its directions.
